As the weekend draws to a close we are in the midst of a strange transition, holding on to the memories of Kolby while letting go of some of the physical reminders.
Last night was another rough night for our middle daughter. She loves animals and the loss of Kolby has deeply saddened her. Luckily I had saved quite a bit of Kolby’s fur over the years when I brushed him so we were able give her a small bunch of Kolby’s fur in a change purse. We did this the night Kollby passed and she has slept with it each night since and was particularly helpful last night.
We gave our neighbor’s most of the food, biscuits and rawhide bones we had left to help with their sons two dogs. They were always very generous with Kolby and would give him a bones all the time. Kolby got to the point where he would stand at the fence and bark until they came out and gave him a bone, he was a little spoiled sometimes…
Tonight was the first time I took the trash to the curb without Kolby. He used to see me getting the trash together and would wait by the door to come out with me. Trash night was his night to get out in the front yard to sniff around and see what was going on out front. He would sniff around the power pole by the curb and make his rounds through both neighbors yards, he would try to sneak further if I wasn’t keeping an eye on him.
Tonight I also put out the last of Kolby’s “business” from the yard. I cried when I cleaned up the yard for the last time and it was sad to think that this was the last time I would be going through this routine. Most people loathe cleaning up after their dog but I would give anything to have to clean up after Kolby even one more time.
I have so many memories I want to share and I am grateful that Kolby has inspired me to start this site because I look forward to looking back at all of the wonderful memories we created together.
We love you Kolby!!!
